Combined Flash IC and SD card design

budhy says...

Hi All, I've got a simple FAT file system working on an LPC2148 with an ST M25P64 flash. So far so good, but I want to add an SD card for extra storage. any suggestions on how to combine the on-board flash Ic with and SD card?? I've seen the efsl filesystem project but this targets SD SPI commands, I need to use the flash translation layer commands for the ST chip so the two are not compatible. I do need the on-board flash in case I forget to bring the SD card so I'd appreciate your thoughts on how to integrate both systems into a single file system. I'll change the hardware if it makes life easier. Any suggestions? thanks, Mark.

I have quite the same implementation: SDcard, M25P20 and LPC2138 But I don't implement FAT on the serial flash, it will contain only internal configuration data. The SD is connected on SPI1 with efsl, and the M25 on SP0 without file system. I am not sure, but it seems that efsl can't use different devices on different interfaces. Everything is written for that purpose, but at the lower level, every device is directed to the same interface, SPI. I will not implement FAT for a non-removable device. Just my 2 cents. Angelo

Hi Polux, Thanks for your thoughts. The reason I have FAT on the non removable drive is that I also implemented a USB mass storage device which directly accesses the non removable flash, so a file system was essential. Thanks again, Mark.
