Regulating 120 VAC down to 5 VDC?

laktronics says...

I have a project in mind which would require running a microcontroller off of line current. This microcontroller would of course be isolated from outside connections, either through optoisolators or perhaps radio connection. However, I'd like a self-contained unit which powers itself from the line. Is there anything relatively quick and easy that I can use? Or should I forget all about quick and easy when it comes to working with line voltage? I have an alternative in mind which might be easier, but it would require a way of measuring current through some kind of isolation transformer... Thanks for any advice you might have! -Scott
